Microdata - Job Description - Web Application Developer

This is an exceptionally challenging role in a small team within our rapidly expanding business specialising in the provision of market leading Business Intelligence solutions, and event management and registration systems.

The role is diverse, challenging and variable; covering new development, system enhancement & implementation and set-up of our systems at exhibitions, events and venues throughout the UK, Europe and the USA.   The role will also include elements of customer facing to our portfolio of major blue-chip accounts therefore confident customer communication skills and a smart presentation are a major requirement.   Additionally the ability to travel Internationally without any personal or visa constraints and work unsociable hours are prerequisite to the position.   You will be physically fit as there will occasionally be the requirement for the lifting of heavy equipment during events.

You will possess a strong practical approach to problem solving, vision for expanding the products currently offered and the ability to remain cool and efficient under high levels of pressure, which will include working to immoveable event deadlines and applying enhancements and patches to live applications.

Whilst elements of the role of Web Application Developer may be flexible according to your primary strengths and areas of expertise, it is essential that you have an unshakeable desire to be part of a small and growing technology company at a critical stage of its development.   Hard work, commitment, focus and a level-head are pre-requisites as is the ability to work and integrate with your colleagues within our Company: this is not a job for the faint hearted.

Objectives of Role

Most of your first year within our Company is already planned.   You will be very heavily involved in the following activities - some of which you will have totally responsibility for;  

  • A major technical expansion of an existing web-based application, from the design through development and deployment stages.
  • The entire lifecycle of bringing a major new application to market, which will interface with an existing application.
  • You will be responsible for creating and deploying a web-based secure product configuration tool for use by clients.
  • You will be responsible for enhancements, amendments and creation of interactive elements and security within our Corporate Intra- and Extranet sites as well as our main Internet site.
  • You may be required to set-up and install solutions at multiple venues throughout UK, continental Europe and the USA.
  • You will create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with both internal teams and external customers.
  • Maintain a professional and enthusiastic attitude towards successfully delivering of all projects.
  • Support the online elements of our solutions which have been deployed at events, participate in site visits and set up & break downs at events as required.
  • Where appropriate, maintain and develop client relationship with a view to not only retaining existing business but also developing new business opportunities – think long term!
  • Contribute towards the development of Microdata’s products, so that these continue to meet with and exceed client requirements and any competitive product.

Benefits Package

  • Starting salary of £22,500 - 30,000 pa ~ Purely dependant upon experience but prove yourself and you will be rewarded accordingly!
